johnL
HiMy Supersport S3 has a metalic knock to the rear suspension mainly when hitting pot holes or raised man hole covers, upon inspection the passenger side anti roll bar link ends seemed to have worn as they had a degree of movement that the drivers side didn't.Ordered 2 new link arm ends, fitted them but they seem the same, is there a grease that should be used when fitting to cushion the ball joint link ends? SM25T
Do you have Watts linkage to locate the design tube ... ie forward and rear radius arms each side with little rod end bearings in the centre crank ? These end up rattling. I ditched the rear anti roll bar and changed from Watts link to radius arm mounting. That solved the problems for me. johnL
Hi SM25TI'm sure mine is a watts linkage chassis (S3 2015), the part I changed was caterham part 72118, they are a small ball joint with a retaining curl pin. I'm sure these where making the noise as when on the jack and striking them with my palm a metallic knock could be heard. They have a small rubber dust guard fitted to the ball side of the joint which made me think that maybe a heavy lithium grease in the cup was needed upon fitment? gulf 1
I grease my droplinks on a regular basis, no knocking from them but there is a slight movement in them until regreased.

John Vine
...the McGill rod ends...Could you possibly post the McGill part number or reference? (I use McGill rod ends for my Watts link bellcranks and find them very good quality and excellent value.)JV
johnL
Hi JohnThese are what I have ordered, they to be the right size and thread - M8 x 1.25mm Male-Female BALL JOINT, TRACK ROD END exclusively from McGill Motorsports. These item is a M8 x 1.25mm Standard Pitch Right Hand Thread, Male to Female High Performance, High Misalignment Angle Ball Joint - ideal for use in all types of motorsport or Kit Car type applications such as linkages and Anti Roll Bar Links etc Product Code: SQ8RS They are £6.89 so about the same price as the Caterham item but look to be a stronger joint and post free.I will let you know how I get on with them when they arrive and have been fitted. SM25T
Bear in mind imperial chassis uses 1/4" x 5/16" rod ends .... not M8.
R300 FNL
I have bought some of these uprate M8 x 1.25mm Male-Female BALL JOINT, TRACK ROD END.The only problem is I have an imperial chassis so can anyone recommend where/ what size of metric rods I need to connect the ball joints to?Thanks,
John Vine
The McGill website states the external and internal threads are the same:"Supplied with a standard pitch (1.25mm) M8 internal and External thread"So, you'll need a length of this. You'll have some left over as, according to CC's Workshop Notice 460, the threaded bar of the CC drop-link is 47mm long. Wilts North AR
And for those that just want to lubricate the drop link ball ends my 'easy' to follow guide:https://www.lotus7.club/guides/maintenance/rear-anti-roll-bar-drop-link-maintenanceI considered moving to the McGill links but relented & purchased two individual CC ball joints which were stripped & lubricated before fitting. The original bottom ball joints lasted six years with annual lubrication but eventually the wear was out of sensible limits. So those that have fitted the McGill links can we have an update in two or three years time as to the resistance to wear? Have asked Shaun E for advice.
Jonathan Kay
That is weird. As you've already tried logging out and in I'd try cycling some settings that might be account specific, including text preferences.Jonathan
