mossy7
I know this is an often discussed topic and the suggested route is a 5 mm spacer or grind the ear off a little but my question is actually why do the 8 x13 8 spokes I just picked up for my 2018 car actually foul on the de Dion ear at all? Since these wheels were introduced on the R500 I am led to believe the de Dion ear was modified by CC to overcome this so why do I have a problem on a nearly new car? Tazio
CC have a history of knowing about issues/problems and never fixing them, par for the course, as they know we will sort it. This problem is an easy fix, no spacers, just grind a little off, and be careful where they put the balance weights...
mossy7
One assumes the 13x8 Apollo don't foul? Or am I expecting too much?
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted May 3, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted May 3, 2019 The 13" 8J eight spokes on my 2013 R400D run pretty close to the rear edge of the ear so much so that grit gets caught in the gap & scratches both wheel & ear.Carefully ground off about 1mm in the problem area but did not want to take any more off. Result - grit still gets caught, less so but still get scratches on both wheel & ear.Just another thing on the CC 'not to do list'.............. Drumster
I'd hazard a guess that it's probably down to the original build/design for the rear suspension which was for 6" wheels. As said above it's our problem to solve the 8" wheels issue......

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted May 4, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted May 4, 2019 Offset has nothing to do with it.
