Wheel weights- bit of an answer for those interested. ..plus new update 18/04!

Does anyone know the weights of the 6x13 and 8x13 8 spoke wheels that Caterham supplied as a fore runner to the Apollo wheel?

Considerably lighter than the 17" and 19" wheels and tyres I have been swapping over on the Mazda today, that's for sure !!!

There's lots of data in the archives, but unfortunately scattered across lots of threads. 

If you can face looking through it how about tabulating the values as you go?

Ok. With the help of the following great blog courtesy of Daniel, I have a bit of an answer-( apologies for the copyright theft!)

Caterham 6x13 eight spoke weighs 4.4kg

Caterham 8x13 eight spoke weighs 4.7kg

From CC website:-

6x13 Apollo weighs 4.16kg

8x13 Apollo weighs 4.76kg

6.5 x15 Orcus weighs 5.8kg

6x 14 Classic weights 4.88kg

So, I'm looking at a 5kg weight reduction going from 15s to 13 inch eight spokes without considering tyres.

I recently weighed my 6x13 Apollos with 50% worn ZZS tyres at 11.6kg.

My 6x14 Minilites with 30% worn Rainsports weigh 14.6kg

All heavier than I’d hoped.

14" Minator with ZV3 13.1 kg.

14" Minator with R888R 14.3kg.

Researched:

13" Apollo 4.16/4.76 kg.

13" ZZS 7.65/8.80 kg.

13" CR500 6.05/7.03 kg.

Bit of weighing this morning:

13x6 Eight spoke with 175/55/13 CR500 10kg

13x8 Eight Spoke with 205/55/13 CR500 11kg

But more weighing today and blimey!!!!!!!!!

15 inch Orcus alloy plus practically new( 900 mile) ZZS is 15kg, a set then 60kg. 

So.... based on my previous post above, a staggered set of 13s weigh 42kg which is a weight save of 18, yes Eighteen, KG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I weighed a lot of different wheels and tyres some time back; I’ll see if I can still find my notes.

(From memory an ACB10 was at least as good a weight saving as a mag wheel; but I can’t recall the detail.)

No diet indeed and an increase in power to weight ratio! Win win in my book. Now..pass the whisky and chocolate.

I've just weighed ordinary cap head bolts and titanium bolts to compare the weight. It looks like some 200 gramms can be saved for a MB wheel simply changing to titanium bolts. That would leave the lightest fronts at 2.9kgs (!) Unfortunately the CR500s are no longer available (at least not from CC and not in the old compound) and the ZZS' are a lot heavier.
