Which one first?

I am about to embark upon the 2nd phase of my 1.8K series engine upgrade.(the 1st being the exhaust) Budget is not yet in place for the complete package which will involve BV head and TB's, so the choice at the moment is one of the following:

a. 285 Cams and Emerald *thumbup*

b. Emerald and verniers *thumbup*

c. Emerald only *thumbup*

d. Wait until the budget is in place for the lot. 🤔

The questions each of these pose is

a. I'm told engine will be useless with 285 cams and a std. plenum despite Emerald

b. Will I gain from timing std cams, will the Emerald make a difference on a standard engine?

c. Will the Emerald make any difference on a standard engine (4-2-1 exhaust)?

d. I have absolutely no patience and now have a small amount of money burning a hole in my pocket.

What is my next move *confused*

It depends on how small that amount of money is? But FWIW the important starting point is the exhaust, especially if you've got the standard system. Whatever mods to choose the standard MEMS cannot be programmed to maximise the potential in any future modifications which is why I personally went for the big exhaust and the Emerald. That appears to be a good basis on which to build further upgrades. Well it would be if I could get the EU3 connector....hint hint oily 😬
