andydavy
Has anybody used an oil filter sandwich plate for oil pressure ad temp senders on a k series. Seems a really simple option or am i missing something?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted March 30, 2019 Member Share Posted March 30, 2019 Just for senders, not an oil cooler?External search.Jonathan
garybee
All the flow needs to go through the ports on the sandwich plate. If you block them with sensors there'll be no flow to your engine.Easy way is to use the spare port on the filter take-off. I steered someone that way a few months ago on here. 7 wonders of the world
Best place for an oil temp sender is in the sump - wet or dry this is where the peak temperatures are seen.
Wrightpayne
7wow - would there be oil laying in a dry sump pan when its running, enough to submerge a sensor? I would think not but don’t know for sure! I guess thats why caterham fit the sender in the bell / easyclean / apollo tank.Ian
7 wonders of the world
Yes most DS pans have a drain plug in the collection trough to locate the finger filter, which feeds the scavenge pipe so you can drill and tap this and pop the sender in the plug, no restriction to oil flow but in the oil at the hottest point
p.mole1
Yes I used one but it was in conjunction with an Accusum. You need one of these from Merlin Motorsport "Mocal Billet Sandwich Plate For Sender Fitment". Depending on the size of your sump plug you might be able to drill and tap the plug or buy one
Chris Norman
I ran a set up from Think which included a sandwich plate with mechanical oil temperature and pressure gauge. I can take some photos if you want as the bits are off the car as moving to digital dash with solid state senders.ThanksChris
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted April 2, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted April 2, 2019 Pressure ... the filter head is drilled for the standard oil pressure sender, simply replace this with the piping for the mechanical oil pressure gauge ... assuming that's what you're trying to do.Temperature ... unless you're tracking the car you don't need to worry about oil temperature. If you are going on track you should have at least an Apollo tank, preferably a dry-sump set up. In both cases the Apollo tank or the dry sump tank will have drillings already in place for a temperature sender. Why make life any more complicated!Stu.
