Mr Spaceman
Hi have a small leak coming from the diff less than a teaspoon on the garage floor after car sitting for a few months. Anything to worry about?
SM25T
Could be the seal ... or a mild bit of corrosion on the drive shaft where it sits in the seal ... from lack of use. Try driving it and see if it sorts it if it is the latter.
Jim 123
A precautionary check of the oil level with the car sitting level might be worthwhile. If the diff has an over fill it will not help.
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted March 9, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted March 9, 2019 I think that you need to read this: https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/bmw-differential-have-you-had-oil-leaks-output-sealsI am updating the thread this August as it will have been three years since the out put seal failure. The originals failed at the initial three year point. The seal condition gets to a point where whatever the oil level is - standard till it drips out of the filler plug or only 800ml - there is still leakage. At least the fuel tank is prevented from corroding! Mr Spaceman
Hi Guys Thanks for your help with this....I think I overfilled the diff during the build (500 miles ago) so i will keep an eye on it and if I need to will change the seals.Paul
SM25T
Does it have a combined fill/level plug like the Ford diff ? Just take out the level plug and let excess drain off, then refit. Have drain tray handy.
