StevehS3
Another vote for the Hella. It’s E marked too.
andydavy
sforshaw - did you cut rear of hella light off to get it to sit flush?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 11, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted February 11, 2019 No it's exactly as supplied: https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/surface-mount-slimline-led-third-brake-light-red-lens-280mmThe back of the light is flat and the roll bar is obviously round, so I added a thin strip cut from bonnet foam (~4mm wide) around the edge to fill the gap before fitting.Stu. Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 12, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted February 12, 2019 The only downside to my fitment is that it’s hidden if a hood / half hood is fitted. I decided that on balance I preferred it fitted neatly to the top roll bar tube rather than the other mounting options that would make it visible with the hood fitted. Just personal choice though.Stu.
John Vine
I bought one of these from CBS. Very effective.I made up a mini sub-loom with Econoseals and hooked it into the LHS rear-lamp cabling just below the boot floor (no photos, I'm afraid).JV
elie boone
An option is to use P clips to mount the brake light underneath the roll bar and if u use a clear brake light it's hardly visible when not in use.
A7 OOH
Like most members I consider the high level brake light a good piece of safety kit which I am about to fit onto my seven.Considering the above options-Those that have fitted the Hella 40 LED or similar are the water proof? and can they be bonded onto the roll bar to give a tidy fix. (Best Bonding agent)I did consider the one of the Caterham Unit as currently have a spare wheel fitted but will probably remove it - then I noticed Caterham do a High Level Kit (2017) HLB04K. Does anyone have any info on this kit and does it fit directly to the roll bar?- I have standard bar fitted. Thanks
StevehS3
I used no more nails double sided tape to stick the Hella unit to the roll bar. No problem with water damage to the adhesive or unit after many years including heavy rain.
A7 OOH
Thanks Steve I will sort some out together with a Hella unit
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 15, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted February 15, 2019 I had to refit my Hella unit after painting the roll bar and used number plate sticky pads. Cheap to buy a roll of it on eBay.Stu.
mike150
Why not just use a bit of double sided tape and 2 black cable ties?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 16, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted February 16, 2019 Why use p-clips or cable ties and make it look like a Meccano set when more modern solutions are available?Stu.
mike150
Trying to save the appearance and integrity of the roll bar here! Nothing wrong with 2 black cable ties.
Collidog
I emailed CC about this kit, asking if the bracket fitted to the top member of the roll bar. However, the response received was:No, this sits on top of the rear panel so the light sits just below the poppers. If this is the case then it does not particularly render it high level - it would only be slightly higher than the rear light clusters. Have email back to explain this.
A7 OOH
Thanks for that Collidog that sorts out the fitting of the new 2017 Caterham brake light kit, like you say not really high level.
