Collidog
Spotted what looks like peeling/flaking paint under the sill. Car new in July, 3200 miles. The areas that look like bubbling are just water after washing. I’ll be sending these pics to CC, but wondered if there is anything I should do to halt it. Have to touch up some of the chassis powder coating that had been chipped with some Hammerite. Should I simply touch these areas in too. Cheers - Neil
Tazio
If its a new car, its probably a car painted by Caterhams in house team, be aware they have had real problems getting their skill level and capability to their previous painters level....Make a real bloody fuss, it shouldnt happen. Period.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 5, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted January 5, 2019 Leave it alone and let Caterham take care of it. The flaking is on sections of the alluminium skin and not the chassis tubes, probably a result of poor preparation of the alluminium (it should be acid etch primed) prior to the paint being applied. If that's the case it'll happen in other places as well.Stu.
WB7
Hi Neil,Is that where the lowered floor panels meet the sidewall?I also have a new factory build car that was painted / build in July 2018, delivered end of August 2018... just checked and mine looks ok, for now.Would like to stay updated on this... wondering how Caterham will react to this, and how they will solve it.Indeed, looks like a bad pre-treatment before painting... so could expect this on other areas too... AND also on my car :(Hopefully this is not an issue related to the inhouse paintjob nowadays... and only a one-off... All the best!Wim
CtrMint
I got my car October 18, although in kit form, and still being built. I suspect it will have come from a similar paint process, so naturally I'm equally as interested.
Jim 123
TazioI re #2 and CC's in house team, do I read your comment correctly that TSK are no longer doing the painting of factory cars / kits?
Collidog
Update:reported the flaking paint along with photos to CC. They raised a warranty claim immediately. The warranty team have asked that my car be inspected onsite at Gatwick as they also want to determine if the areas of concern are limited to the currently affected areas or if there are other areas they may soon peel. Car is booked in. Very happy with this service so far

Collidog
I can report these paint defects were rectified by CC. A very nice job done and no further problem areas found.
