gnewman79
When racing in Caterham Academy a HANS device is required. Do you know the recommended degree of incline on the HANS device please?
CharlesElliott
Standard 20 degree is fine, but I would seriously consider the Simpson harness - I have a HANS but with hindsight, would have got the Simpson as it just looks easier to manage and once it is on you don’t have to think about it. gnewman79
Did you use a Simpson harness? I heard great things, but was concerned about the hard section in between shoulder blades being uncomfortable.
Drumster
I have a Simpson Hybrid with a Tillett seat for sprinting/hillclimbing, as do many others in the club speed championship, and I find it very comfortable and I'm not aware of anyone who has commented otherwise or even swapped to a HANS.Simpsons also work well with 3" shoulder straps whereas I understand that some HANS require 2".The other thing to consider is that you many need to have the mounting points for the harness shoulder straps re-sited to ensure the correct angle (both horizontally and vertically). Area Representative Richard Price Posted December 22, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted December 22, 2018 I've never had any issue using a standard 20° HANS device with 3" shoulder straps. However, positioning on the shoulder straps correctly is important with either HANS or the Simpson Hybrid, and all depends on your own physical size and your seated position. My harnesses are fixed to the underside of the seat back bulkhead, and pass through the bulkhead. I found that one of the standard bosses was already suitably positioned, but have one custom boss.
