ECR
I seem to remember that the Y piece shown was an "improvement" that allowed space to unclip the boot cover. The original setup just fastened to the rear panel with a large dished stainless washer through the centre of the wheel. Or am I mistaken?
Tazio
You are correct Roger, that method allowed you to leave a large tyre imprint on the rear panel too..
ECR
Is this for the BD? If so and if you're going for absolute originality you'll need the tyre imprint.....

Tazio
Hmm, I have seen earlier cars than mine, its a 1990 car, with the same Y bracket in Nicks photos, so I'm not sure when the cutover was. Aesthetically I prefer the older style, but beggars cannot be choosers if no one has one to sell. Trust you are both well, or are you still camped at Alex's? Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted November 18, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted November 18, 2018 Alan,My 1996 Scholarship car came with the dished chromed oversize penny washer (more of a tuppeny washer).I now use the Y piece spacer, which makes undoing the boot poppers only a little easier. If you want to pursue thus line, I'll check the garage. If I can find it, it is yours for free.
