nic.day
Just got some lovely LED bulbs and also was told to get new relays. So all, have arrived but apparently I need to wire an earth to the relays. Now I am a wiring numpty - is it as simple a spade connector from the relay to a bolt on the chassis?I know if I do anything the car will explode!just need an idiots guide, thanks
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 23, 2018 Member Share Posted October 23, 2018 AFAIK they’re usually a plug-in replacement without that additional wire. Can you post any more details?Jonathan
SM25T
Is this headlamps ? Don't know why you would be told to get new relays?
rj
Yes it is. This is because the old relay got it's eath via the bulbs. This is not possible with LEDs as those do not act as resistors, which old school bulbs do-ish.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 23, 2018 Member Share Posted October 23, 2018 As Regin says... you may have to rewire the telltale warning light on the dash, and that might need a new earth. It will also need a pair of diodes.Does that match with the instructions, and have they supplied diodes or a widget that includes them?Do you have one or two indicator telltales on the dash? And would you like a wiring diagram?Jonathan
K7 VCT
Have LEDs headlights, no relays needed.... only gor indicators if being changed.
