anthony1956
Ever since a real drenching in Norway (2010), after being exposed to damp weather, my car runs like a bag of spanners. Any ideas? Anthony - an R500 K EU2
Stridey
I had shorting issues on alternator wires at the back. . I added a proper plug down there rather than the bare connectors that were originally there and that’s fixed by a clip. No idea why it wasn’t there in the first place as it’s susceptable to road splash being so low.
Stridey
Also, worth checking leads. There are simple methods using a multimeter and a ruler with a simple equation to check resistance. I found one of my leads was way low, traces to a duff wire to plug joint. New leads cured it.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted October 3, 2018 Leadership Team Share Posted October 3, 2018 So am I understanding this correctly .... it's been running like a bag of spanners for 8 years and you've not had anyone look at it?
anthony1956
haha! no! :-)it runs like a bag of spanners for a few minutes, coughs, splutters and zooooom... might be mucky plugs I suppose. But I suspect the damp. alternator wires, now THAT is an interesting possibility given my still current alternator break down. I'll be changing the whole loom later this month, all being well. Plans are afoot. Sounds like "we" think it's wires related. Yes I was also wondering about the plug leads. Anthony
anthony1956
on reflection (Stridey) I think a set of new leads is probably well over due; they are ancient.
