john milner
No but with anything like this I would like a sideways view before buying.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-36LED-Stop-Car-Rear-Tail-Indicator-Reverse-Lamps-Trailer-Truck-Lighting-Light/283041326469?hash=item41e693e585:g:UtcAAOSwmT1bPddO I am considering replacing the rear combo bulbs to LED for around £10 a time as that seems to be the easiest as well as the cheapest way to get sideways illumination.https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collections/12-volt-collection/products/2-x-bay15d-red-stop-tail-led-4014-30-smd-brake-rear-light-glb380-p21-5w-classic-car-negative-or-positive-earth
K7 VCT
Can't recommend classiccarleds.co.uk enough. All my lights are using there bulbs for past 18 months all good.

Brightonuk
I went with brand name Philips Red Philips Sku# 2357R andAmber Philips Sku# 1156A They do require a resistor for both indicators but they are cheap just Google led resistor or LED rapid flashing Amazon has them as wellSimple to splice them in. The two wires from the resistor tap into the + an - of the indicator 5 min job (not spliced but tapped)
elie boone
Or something hip like these lights https://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk/lighting/rear-lighting/led-rear-combination-lights/was-w150dd-12v24v-neon-led-rear-combination-light-lamp-with-dynamic-ind with E mark or something more traditional as in the pic https://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk/brands/sim/sim-3159-12v24v-universal-clear-lens-led-rear-combination-tail-lamplight
john milner
Rear combo bulbs have now been replaced with red LEDs from classiccarleds.co.ukNot the clearest of comparisons as the pictures were taken in broad daylight. Both sides have also had a Bacofoil upgrade. One side is LED the other is standard. First picture is rear light only, next has the brake-light added, third is just the brake-light and the last two are rear lights only. Answer at the bottom. Right is LED. Left is standard. I would say the difference is more pronounced when you see it for real but would not be retina searing. Apart from stopping I don't use the brakes very often and I have a high level brake-light so improving the rear lights at the back at night was my main objective. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted September 16, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted September 16, 2018 I'd certainly go for the Just Add Lightness units, were I looking. But my refit came too soon. I went for an individual route using the E marked Hella LED fixings in their Mix & Match range (from SVC). I had seen the way the Swiss do not fit those dreadful caravan/forklift units with which Caterham Cars persevere and decided it was the way forward. The high water mark inside the OEM was halfway up. Why fit an electical unit which leaks? They are cr@p units in my opinion, so I would not put different lamps in such a poor quality fitting. At least the JAL units operate well under water (look for the video)

Strangely
GJT, or anyone else, do you have any photos of the Swiss car lights, to which you refer? I'm looking for alternatives to the Caterham lights for when I fit new rear wings, hopefully over this winter. Despite how much I don't like the Caterham ones, pretty much every alternative just doesn't look "right". I do like the round ones that are fitted on the Sprint [1] -- are the Swiss ones similar?[1]: http://uk.caterhamcars.com/caterham-sprints-back-swinging-‘60s

Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted September 16, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted September 16, 2018 They are sealed units (being LEDs) and mounted from the inside of the wing with a lot of silicone (not in the least environmentally sound but very secure).Of course if you need a hole saw, you may use the one I bought. Speedtrip
I have the Classic Car. LED’s in the standard units/lens. Whilst the bulbs are brighter I feel the brake and side lights do still get a little lost against my bright red car in daylight. So I’m considering fitting clear lenses in the hope their illumination will standout more.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 17, 2018 Member Share Posted September 17, 2018 Nice physical separation of the turn indicators, GJT. Should be mandatory on safety grounds IMHO.Jonathan
john milner
The JAL ones are probably better than the Classic Car LEDs bulbs but they are also way over £200 dearer and from reading other posts on JAL being too bright I think there is only so much brightness that can be added. arun1uk
This thread is very useful.Slightly off topic, but related, do you know if the classic car LED rear indicator bulbs will work out of the box, or do they require any additional changes? Thought I'd ask before calling them.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 17, 2018 Member Share Posted September 17, 2018 Changing to LED indicators might require changing the indicator relay.Jonathan

7oaks Mike
I’ve just purchased my first caterham. Within two weeks I changed all the lights to LEDs from JAL. Rear light units, fog, reverse, number plate, wing repeaters and front indicators (and of course the relay). What a difference. All were virtually plug and play and the difference between them and standard are unreal. Worth every single penny. I know there are cheaper alternatives out there but for quality, and ease of figment the JAL ones are worth the extra. Just need to do the headlights now... SimonR300
Steve, those look like some LED lights I fitted to my trailer with a carbon look body to frame them in.https://www.trailertek.com/trailer-parts/lighting/led-lights/led-autolamps-135arme-slimline-rectangular-rear-lamp-12-24v You could have a look at these LED lights sold for use on trailers but could work ok.https://www.trailertek.com/trailer-parts/lighting/led-lights
SimonR300
The Sprint rear lights are very like the old Lucas early Land Rover lights.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Series-1-2-2a-Lucas-L488-Front-Rear-Indicator-Light-Glass-Lens-Unit-/281627206409It looks like there may be a clearance issue though. Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted September 21, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted September 21, 2018 Fitted just stop/tail LEDs from Classic Car LEDs. £16 free p&p cannot complain. The difference is palpable even in day light plus the LEDs react much quicker when on the brake pedal.Did not bother with indicators as I think they are sufficient as they will get noticed when flashing. Sooty
Duncan Rickards at Classic carleds is a top bloke. First class service. Watch out what colours you go for. White under coloured lenses or coloured under clear lenses not coloured under coloured lenses. JAL units are brighter but IMHO the cost benefits equation doesn't quite add up at JAL prices
