AndrewE
Hi I am planning to do a few track days and sprints in my 1.6K Supersport. Currently wet-sumped.Without going full dry sump is an Apollo tank good enough ?
JonL
I have a 1.6k with a wet sump and apollo and i've not had a problem on trackdays.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted August 20, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted August 20, 2018 OK provided you don't have massive power and massive cornering speeds using slicks etc. A 1.6 k on road tyres will be fine with an apollo tank. AndrewE
Thanks for quick responses Jon and Paul. Mind at rest and will go for Apollo I gather hose routing is fun

Roadsport06
I'm on track today and I see a pressure drop on one corner. I have an Apollo on a k series and running R888R. I understand the electrical pressure gauge is heavily damped so you don't see any drop off on some corners. My mechanical gauge is quick to react to changes. AndrewE
Interesting as I'm planning to go R888Rs Was it a significant drop and a particularly long corner?
StevehS3
I have always thought the standard gauge isn’t heavily damped as the needle can move fairly quickly e.g. when setting off from from idle.Andrew: note the fitting is different for the later metric chassis just in case that what you happen to have. Roadsport06
The corner isn't particularly long, it is the issue with the shallow sump. The pressure briefly dropped to about 35psi so the Apollo being a reservoir of extra oil and separating the air from the oil is great. The mechanical gauge is very sensitive when compared to the electrical I had, but I have the mechanical because after having two senders in the first couple of years I realised mechanical would not be much more than a couple of senders
rj
To get the thread back on track (pun intended): If your tappets bocome just the least noisy it's probably because you're loosing oil pressure.I don't know which tyres you're using, but I see 1.5-1.6G on ZZS' Her the wet sump just does it - as in /just/ I would say that an apollo tank is an absolute minimum and that you must keep the oil level at maximum all the time. AndrewE
Stephen, I have an imperial chassis. I will be back for more info as I am building up a kit of parts as I want to include the non return valve on the top vent hose to cam coverI have asked in a separate thread but does anyone have a template for the bottom mount bracket? Ivaan
I would say you need an Apollo even if just for road use. I wiped the bearings on my old K series ( wet sump, no apollo ) on R888s just driving enthusiastically around the local roundabouts. I had to strip and re-build the engine and install apollo. Afterwards no problems even doing the sprint series.
StevehS3
I might have a new bracket. I’ll check later.

Russ P
Hi All, I have a Ford 1600 x flow, wet sump. Where do I get an Apollo tank, and would it be straightforward to fit by my local garage engineer? 'scuse my ignorance.Russ P
John Vine
I've little knowledge of the XF, but AFAIK the Apollo was designed for the K alone as a way to mitigate the problems associated with the very shallow sump. I don't know whether or not it would work on an XF, but I'm not sure it would even be needed?JV
