Moving to 13 inch wheels; suspension & tyres

Hello everyone,

I’d like to upgrade from 14” classic wheels, currently with Avon 185/60 ZV3’s and Caterham’s standard R-pack suspension to 13” wheels and harder suspension for road use. I had a ride in a Superlight, which was on 13” Avon ZZS, and I was impressed with its handling.

The current tyres are too hard, so while 13” wheels with a correspondingly deeper tyre wall will transform the ride, the suspension is likely to need adjusting to maintain the correct ride height, so going to 13” wheels means the suspension also needs to be revisited.

Caterham Cars South are just 20 minutes down the road from me, so one option is to get them to do the work. Thoughts?

Personally, I'd go a little further south and head for Andy Jupp at PGM . You'll not find anyone on here that will say a bad thing about Andy.

I have just changed from 15” to 13” and had a full geo done and the difference as amazing.  I took mine to boss racing and I’m really pleased but I have nothing to compare them with.  The only real advice I can give is get the lightest wheels you can.  I put Apollo’s on mine shod with cr500 really happy with them
