seriouspete
Hello all,I am new to 7 ownership and new to the club, my first ever post is a question :-) my new (to me) car is a 2002 Seven with a Raceco Duratec on 48mm Throttle Bodies and a Raceco silencer. I have a carbon airbox on order and I’m going to re-pack the silencer. I’ve done a lot of track days over the years at Bedford and I’d like to take the 7 now. How likely am I to get through the static and driveby limits? Has anyone done it with a similar spec car? thanks Pete
Dellc
I don’t know about all tracks but brands let you test the static noise level free of charge. I popped down there in the week before my track day to make sure my static level was within limits which it was. It really depends on what spec you’re running, if you’re running a high spec 2.0l you might struggle.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 3, 2018 Member Share Posted July 3, 2018 Welcome, Pete. What Delic says + wait till the morning rush is over. Apps on smart 'phones can measure sound levels, and allow you to compare your car with others.Jonathan
Dellc
I’ll add that it’s the drive by I struggle with and there is no way I would even both going to Bedford although I would of liked to.
seriouspete
Thanks Delc, is yours a similar spec to mine, (240 BHP)?can you lift past the drivebys? I know where they are....
Dellc
No mine is a r300k and is loud. My static is 98 and yes you can lift off or change up but I find that uninteresting so I purchased a muffler and that did the trick. I tend to go to the tracks with louder limits to avoid disappointment. I recon you will be close to both static and dive by. If you do go let us know how you get on please. seriouspete
Of course, I’ll report back any success or failure!
seriouspete
An update, I visited a wet, but quiet Bedford Autodrome today, with a freshly packed silencer ( Acousti-fill) and the Caterham track day airbox.Bedford measured everyone at 4,500 rpm, I was only 93.5dB so no problem there. I then did a dozen laps building up revs/ speed and eventually I did get one noise warning, which they give you if you are within a couple of dB of the drivebysAfter the warning I kept below 6,000rpm only by the noise meters and there was no problems. For the last few laps, before I was going home, I did my best to get black flagged for noise, to see if it would happen, it didn’t...I think a little more noise reduction work to do, but then i should be safe on any track. Also worth noting I had the car re-mapped to suit the airbox over the foam pipercross it came with, I also had to use 30mm shorter trumpets, we ran the car with/ without the airbox and the power was down by 15BHP ish using the airbox, but the noise difference on the rollers was huge!!
