Small leak

This is the response I got from Millwood caterham about a pic I sent them about a very small oil leak.

"It's coming from the speedo drive, which on later cars (as yours) is blanked off with a bolt. Very unusual to see a dry one – what you are seeing is normal and much better than most.

 

Can anyone shed any more light should I check oil level somewhere and just drive it on?

Don't think that I've seen this mentioned before, have you checked the archives?

Mazda or Type 9 or six speed gearbox?

Do you know what sort of seal or washer is currently in there?

Could you post the photo?

Gearbox oil top-up, from Alcester Racing 7s.

I have checked the archives with no success, I have since got another email saying just to check the gearbox oil in a couple of months but other than that it's fine. Not filling me with confidence to here just drive it on.

My 6 speed drips out of the speedo drive - jury still out on whether the replacement seal and speedo drive I fitted have remedied it!?

Ah... I should have been more explicit. There's plenty in the archives on leaks with the speedo drive in place. And the components of the solution are probably very similar.

It was about a 4” puddle over the winter lay up so quite a lot. Still using the car with regular oil checks.

The ford 5sp and 6sp need a cut down allen key to get the plug out.
