Lambda probe on 4-2-1

Following Arnie's recommendation, Hayward and Scott are currently looking after Kermit and building him 4-2-1 manifold.

When I had a look with them on Saturday as I dropped him off, we weren't sure if there was enough slack in the cable to attach to the lambda probe which will have to be on the single pipe after the primaries and secondaries.

Has anyone had this problem before? How did you get around it, I reckon I could cut the cable and lengthen it, how much current does it have to carry? (could I do it with my crimping set?).

the answer is yes *smile*

I have a powerspeed 4-2-1 exhaust and lengthened my lambda cable, it works fine, just use the same size wire and stagger the crimps so it doesn't bulge too much. I covered mine with black heat shrink tubing from vehicle wiring products.

be aware that ifyou car was regstered after 1/8/98 then it WILL need a cat for the MOT.

pictures of mine are on the website here.

Slightly different question - I have an x-reg Superlight with the standard cat exhaust. I also have a second hand competition exhaust from a(n older) superlight (acquired from Mr Bees).

Now that I'm more aware of the MOT issue, rather than buying a new collector set, is it be possible to chop the front end off both exhausts and fit the front end of the comp exhaust to the rear of the cat exhaust?

PS - as a mechanical numpty I'd be getting someone to do it for me.

Thanks for your responses

I suspect that I might have to do it myself at the workshop before I can drive Kermit home on saturday. So I'll be taking my crimping set with me. Can anyone tell me what current it carries so I can be sure to take the right cable with me?

Charlie , get them to put a bung in it and drive it home and do it there. I think the cable I used was 5 amp or 8 amp available from any auto electricians or halfords. You'll need three colours since two of the wires are the same colour. The colours used are black, white, grey. I'd do the job at home rather than bodging it at the workshop. Heatshrink will also protect the crimped connections from water ingress and heat.
