Dobson_justin
The steering arms that sit in front of the front dampers always look rubbish on my car as they are always rusty, even after rubbing them down, rusty again a week later. What is the best advice for dealing with this? I would like to smooth hammerite them, but I am sure there is a better option? Thanks

ECR
Dave Jackson suggested a strip of black insulating tape along repainted arms. It's sacrificial and cheap. Virtually invisible too
Drumster
Split convoluted tubing cut to a suitable length works for me
Paul McKenzie
Take the rack off, mask it and spray them with Hammerite satin black, after undercoating the steel.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted May 28, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted May 28, 2018 If you are referring to the steering arms that form part of the rack. I suggest you obtain some of the split plastic pipe that is normally white and used to cover central heating pipes next to the radiator. Cut it to length and either paint it black or cover with carbon tape and simply clip over the arm. Looks smart.

Grim Reaper
Heatshrink tubing. You have to take the tie rod ends off to do this but once off, run a length of good quality heatshrink tubing over the rods, replace ends and shrink it down once you've reset the tracking. You never have to do it again.
