Rullingen
Excuse my French but..How the hell do you get the transmission tunnel top off of a k series? There is something holding it down around the handbrake, and I can't lift it enough to see what it is!Thanks, Rob. Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 15, 2018 Member Share Posted May 15, 2018 Have you slackened the cable to get the lever vertical? Some covers have a couple of self-tapping screws in the rear bottom corners. You'll also need to remove the gear lever knob.Jonathan
Rullingen
No I haven't, but it's not coming up against the lever. I can't lift it that far, I was hoping to twist is through 90° so I wouldn't have to release the cable, but there's no chance. I can only lift it an inch. Do you suggest that the cable is the way to go? I have got the gear knob off OK.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 15, 2018 Member Share Posted May 15, 2018 I can only lift it an inch. Has the rear lifted or might it be held by screws?Do you suggest that the cable is the way to go?Yes, but I know what you mean about twisting: I don't know if that's ever possible.Jonathan
Rullingen
The front and rear of the tunnel are completely free, but in the middle around the handbrake it feels like there's a Jack Russell got hold of it from underneath. I can get my fingers under the lip all the way along and there's nothing there, but the upholstery around the handbrake feels like it's still attached to something under the handbrake. I've tried to look from underneath but to see anything I'm going to have to get the prop shaft off.
SM25T
Need to slacken handbrake cable adjusters completely so the handbrake lever is vertical. Then remove two small screws that hold the back end of the cover into the sides of the tunnel.
Wrightpayne
Mine is a tight fit and no fixing screws were needed. Once the handbrake cable is slackened off and gear knob removed I sort of pull outwards and upwards near the middle. Be aware it is possible to twist / buckle the ally frame if you lift from the back and its really tight.RegardsIan
Paul McKenzie
Best to loosen the seat fixings on both sides to give more 'wobble room', and don't bother with the fixing screws.
Rullingen
Thank you all for your advice. It gave in the end with the handbrake freed off.
