Side Screens - History?

Does anyone know when the current side screen design, with the increased elbow room was first used, some idea of when it would have replaced the flat sidescreens with the bottom section which could be opened?

Folding sidescreens with extra elbow room were introduced in 1988, according to Rees.

My ‘89 car had flat ones from new if that helps.

My '95' car had flat screens from new.

The roof/hood is also different depending on the type of screens/doors.

Thanks all for that, just trying to determine what my 1990 BDR would have been delivered with so I can maintain it's originality ( and because there's a pair of early ones on ebay at the mo, lol)

Interested in what John G’s car came with. My ‘94 car came with the more modern type...

They were an option as part of the increased visibility roof kit when I built mine in 1990.

My 1990 car has the side bulge screens. I  can't remember if it was an option I selected or standard fit. I ticked most of the options so it could well be one. I know that I couldn't have a BDR in 1990 because I tried to order and it was refused ....

I think I have worked out what the car came with, I remember it came with a hood, so have just put it up ( a first for me in all the 7s I have had!), it's a high visibility hood so I presume that came with the later sidescreens.
