BDR Refurb - Alternator Solutions

Recommended Posts

As part of my BDR refurbishment  I would like to replace the existing noisy ACR style alternator with a lightweight denso type. I am presuming that this will also involve a change in brackets etc.

Has any done this?, or have any alternative solutions?, any input will be appreciated.

I have seen that Andy, I am not sure about the top fixing bolt for the bracket, I'll have a good look at yours when I pop down, hopefully next week.

But I expect that the drive pulley with that mount would be too far back and will not clear the cam drive belts

I've put a http://www.brise.co.uk/Alternators/ in mine. I did something odd with the mounting that did not involve fashioning, but appropriate "fashioning should be easy for anyone with the tools and skills.

p.s. I found details of the guy that refurbished my carbs, Paul Hollidge http://www.weber-carbs.co.uk/  I was very happy with the result, amazed in fact.

yes I have been searching but not found them. It amounted to using two mounting bars (meccano like) instead of just the usual one, so the result was like an A frame without the centre cross. It looks odd but worked. I can't take a new pic as the car's not here. I'll post it if I can find one.

I found them, quite a few more if you wish to see.

I looked at the file area here online but it has limitations and I'd have to reprocess them all so gave up.

Or pm me and I'll email them to you.

I seem to recall the base fitting shown here (which is the original) required some careful thought regarding the Brise bolts.

I may (repeat may) have flipped it the other way round, I seem to recall having to play with millimetres, but managed in the end without any surgery.

and.. getting the lower bolts to fit .. funny how it comes back. That was "difficult".
