2cv7
HiI filled up with fuel last night and when I got home 12 miles later I could hear something clonking around in the tank. Car has a K series type tank with sealed honey comb floor and bottom protection. Has anyone had a similar problem, ie baffles, float etc coming adrift. Many thanks in advanceElliott
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 20, 2018 Member Share Posted April 20, 2018 Is the gauge reading sensibly?Previous report of a loose baffle.Jonathan
2cv7
Hi Jonathan, The gauge seems to be ok which rules out the float I guess. Is there anything else that can come loose in there? Whatever it is sounds expensive/time consuming...Elliott
Mark w
Take the sender out and have a look inside the tank .You might be able to reuse the gasket , ...... but you will probably be better off replacing it .Not sure how easy it will be to remove the sealed floor ....... SM25T
Is the sprung flap still in place in the filler neck ?
CharlesElliott
Baffle detaching inside the tank, or the filler flap.
JNC
How can you hear it ? Surly it's not with the engine on , Is it when you move the car by hand eg pushing it into the garage , Then the noise could be the float
Tom_Arundel
Or, if it`s full, just fuel slapping/sloshing against the top of the tank
elie boone
worst case scenario is that the whole tank is moving.
2cv7
HiThanks for the replies. The fuel gauge is showing 17L so I think I can rule out the float. I am having probs with the tank pressurising so it could have expanded slightly and popped a baffle. I will check today to see if the fuel neck flap is missing. Does the fuel pump have a pre filter that could have fallen off?It definitely sounds like something moving in the bottom of the tank. I am going to empty the tank when I have time and try and take it out the bottom way if possible.CheersElliott
CharlesElliott
There is a small mesh filter on the end of the pump but I'm not sure you would hear it. There is a metal frame as well, maybe that has come off.
2cv7
Hi Charles, Thanks for the reply. Is the metal frame around the pump normally, and can it be refitted? I have Ian Nobles old car by the way and hope to return it to the track/maybe the Megagrads in the next few years.RegardsElliott
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 22, 2018 Member Share Posted April 22, 2018 How about looking with an endoscope down the filler and then through an existing aperture if that didn't allow enough access?Jonathan
2cv7
Thanks Jonathon.I will try that!Elliott
arty
I had a cloncking all last year and this winter discovreed that the tank was not clamped sufficiently so i am hoping it is that.Mine is clamped with a threaded bar and even with quite a bit of effort it is clamped but not quite perfect.Just going to revisit it as time goes on
SM25T
I lifted my tank and put some cork strips under it to help matters generally. You could also do the same under the clamp angle that the studs fix through
