MadCat52
Just returned from the clubs Dutch Delights tour - my first european driving experience in a Seven.A great tour on great roads - no pot holes! One thing I'd like to do for any future foreign adventures is to improve the mirrors - the standard near-side mirror is practically useless when pulling onto motorways. Has anyone replaced the standard mirror glass with convex mirrors? Failing that, I do remember back in the 80s I could purchase stick on mini convex mirrors to stick in the corner of the standard door mirror.Bob
Stridey
Totally agree. I tried stick on discs but too small for near side imho.ive bought convex glass mirrors designed for a scooter. But these are fixed to screen stanchion not as replacements for door fitted mirrors
SM25T
I ditched the useless door mounted mirrors and fitted CBS large carbon effect convex mirrors to the stanchions. Remain vibration free at 100+ ... wide field of view .... proper ball head adjustment that stays where you set it. Full view of nearside mirror too through door. Drumster
I’ve had left, right and rear convex mirrors on the 7 for more years than I can remember, albeit the Formula SPA ones. You soon get used to the fact that everything appears a long way away when it isn't!
Area Representative Kingsley Young Posted April 9, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted April 9, 2018 I have fitted Racetech mirrors with convex glass ,make sure you buy the angled mount for them. I had them on my first Seven and transferred them to my newer one. They work really well with hardly any vibration at all. They fit nicely into the front hole on each door , I then put a black nut and bolt through the other hole to blank it off. Kingsley. Jonathan Kay
Has anyone replaced the standard mirror glass with convex mirrors? As above. And two more solutions:http://www.mirrorsforsevens.com/images/index_picture2.pngand... cameras and displays rather than mirrors. (How long before this is the standard technology?)Jonathan
Leadership Team 700newtons Posted April 9, 2018 Leadership Team Share Posted April 9, 2018 Hello Bob,Sounds like your on a shopping spree after the tour (battery/mirrors).My car had convex racetech mirrors. They are much better than the Caterham ones, but once vehicles loom up in them, they are rather close.Simon
John Vine
I fitted the ones recommended by SM25T. Excellent product, and especially good on the continent.JV
BigCol
I have the same ones SM25T and JV recommended when I drive with the windbreak... they’re excellent.Anyone suggest better/bigger mirrors for the aero screen (got Spa ones which provide limited rear vision)
JNC
Not sure if these are any good ! Someone on eBay is selling convex door mirror glass item No 391957855106
sjl1
I have just fitted an aeroscreen with spa formula wing mirrors and the flat rear mirror in tall stalk. The wing mirrors are good and work well but dont show anything directly behind, on the basis they dont stick out very far. The rear mirror would be good but it is impeded by the cross brace of the roll bar and consequently useless. Has anyone used a shorter stalk for the rear mirror to go under the brace and if so where from please?thankssimon
MadCat52
Thanks John. I really wanted to keep the original feature of being able to open the door fully onto the bonnet. Best £15 / 20 mins upgrade I've done ... although it actually cost me £30 as my initial ham fisted attempt managed to break the first two mirrors - lessons learnt available if anyone else wants to try.BobOriginalConvex
JNC
Were they the ones off ebay ? were they difficult to fit any tips ?
MadCat52
Yes they were the ones off eBay.Process is:a) remove mirrors from side screens;b) separate the clip on bezel from mirror housing using two small screwdrivers - start in a corner underneath in case you leave a slight mark on the bezelc) unstick the old mirror glass from the housingd) this is were I went wrong the first time and broke two mirrors! Instead of putting the new glass in the mirror housing, place the bezel upside down on a table, site the new glass in the bezel - make sure it's fully in the bezel, then still on the table take off the sticky backing from the new glass before offering the mirror body to the bezel to click into place.e) refit to car

anthony1956
I use those panoramic ones, per Jonathan above, judging by the price they are the very ones I bought a year or two back now. I've never looked back ;-) , especially when on the Nurburgring being passed by four Porsche GT3s in line abreast doing god knows what speed; I no longer feel like I am going to be run over. I also use MT25's solution, the only limiting factor of those being they obscure some of the view on hairpins, but that's soon adjusted for. Limiting factor of the panoramic mirror(s) is that the seat high top blocks some of the view where needed on foreign roads. I also use a child view convex from Halfords, which for many years was my only solution: it confirms very nicely there is nothing there, or something there. The other mirrors now offer proximity measures. I can no longer find the Halfords version, the important aspect is that it clips on to the windscreen as opposed to using sticky stuff, so like this one on amazonAnthony

CageyH
These look good. I assume I don't have to buy the LH and RH mirror glass, as they are the same?
