K series cam belt - How often...

Leebert

...do you change yours?

I had the cam belt changed as a precaution when I bought my 2000 S3 Seven in 2013 when it had 14k miles on it.  Now, 5 years later, it's only done 22k miles.

I have a recollection that the cam belt should be changed every 5 years / 48k miles but is that over protective?  Alternatively, is a change every 5 years a sensible move anyway because of the expensive outcome if it does decide to let go?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Lee

I've changed mine every five years - as well as the cam tensioner. I do about 3000 miles a year, and no trackdays.

However, on each occasion I have changed it, I have not seen any wear on the belt that is visible to the naked eye.
