Replacing front wheel bearings

Is a front wheel bearing replacement something I could reasonably do at home, i.e. without specialist tools? Presumably I'll need a "sodding big" socket, and some ability to not under or over-tighten things...

Is it reasonably easy, or is it going to involve large amounts of work pressing bearings out/in that's best left to a suitably-equipped expert?

I’ve changed wheel bearings with a hammer and pin punch. Just have to go slowly and evenly. Hub warm and bearing races cold helps.

The hub nut will only be finger tight. If stuck a big adjustable / water pump pliers will be fine.

The internals of the hub have two notches for knocking the bearings out.

The process is described in the build manual (my ‘98 one anyway) as some required assembly. Mine were pre built.

Another tip is to put a rivnut in the dust cap so you can just screw a bolt in to pop it off.
