Steveh7
I have just switched to a539 tyres to compete in class 1 sprints and I now have major rear brake bias, the rears lock up very easily and frustratingly I had to keep coming off the brakes to stop the car spinning at high speed. Is anyone running higher friction front pads to help balance the rear bias when switching to lower grip tyres? Thanks in advance Steve
Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 27, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted March 27, 2018 Steve,What pads do you currently have fitted?Mintex 1144's in the front and the pads supplied by caterham specified at the standard pad used with the AP big brake kit, are known to work well. Steveh7
Thanks Richard, I have 1144's on the rear (recently replaced) however not sure what I'm running on the front so I'll check. Steve
Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 28, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted March 28, 2018 Steve, Yes. You need to check what you have in the front. You really need pads that work from cold in both axles. A pad that would give a reasonable race balance with 1144s in the rear, are not likely to work from cold. For road/sprint/hillclimb use, with standard calipers, 1144s in the front, and as above, standard rears, works well.
