magister
Engine now repaired, having finished last season with a very metallic clatter when cold. As Dan M suggested, it was a couple of the hydraulic tappets which had failed. Very efficient repair carried out by Nick Potter who advertises in Low Flying. Next job is do with a suspension set-up /flat floor check. Any recommendations?Paul
Dannyboy
Paul. If you are anywhere near Mallory, i’d Suggest speaking to McMillan motorsport for a set up. They are in Hinckley and really do know Caterham’s inside out.
Comp Sec
Alternatively this is something that our sponsor Troy at Northampton Motorsport can undertake, and you get discount as well...
Graham Howard
PaulI used Northampton motorsport last year and they did a very thorough job. Definitely recommended.Graham
robmar
Speaking of prep does putting the battery on charge count? which is the sum total of work done since getting car back from Wiscombe, not even taken off the trailer...

Tony Smith
oh dear,Not sure I should admit this but, mine has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, serviced and is currently at PGM for some very small tweeks (no not more power!!!!) and its MOT.Seemed like a good idea while the garage is empty to get on with painting the floor Anyone know a good floor polish or can I use Autoglim,

CATERBram Jnr
Our car is still under going a pretty much full rebuild and Tony i don’t think your car can handle much more power didn't it finish last season with about 600BHP
Tony Smith
How about 4 wheel drive and traction control??Never mind BHP, I suspect that Phil has had his car in a wind tunnel all winter. I am sure he said something about down force!!!How's the arm doing now?
robmar
isn't things like traction control and launch control aimed at those that cannot drive... hmm who in our championships use these 'driver aids'
CATERBram Jnr
Down force sounds fun tony more speed arm is doing well I’m on a 16 week pysio routine but getting stronger i was given permission to drive again just need to wait a bit longer to apply for my sprint license
Geoff Corker
Matty, you are right about Tony's car being unable to take any more power. The chassis was flexing when he revved the engine last year!!
Drumster
Talking of driver aids.....I currently have more available 'down force' courtesy of the Christmas diet Best upgrade has been removal of cataract and a new replacement lens, so the addition of another useful eye might actually help navigate the circuits
CATERBram Jnr
Rob if your car has been on the trailer since wiscombe have you cleaned the mud off the tyres yet or has grass started growing on them
magister
So...... what about the fire extinguisher regs - mine looks like it it the original Caterham Academy one with a service due date of June 2005 !!. Any Ideas where I might get it serviced in the Midlands. The alternative is a new one - best one I have found is from JJC Race and Rally at £120, but would rather not spend this if I can get the current one serviced instead. A search round a few forums also suggest it is worth blowing out the plumbed in extinguisher pipework with an airline, as it can become blocked with dust, making the extinguisher ineffective.Paul
Englishmaninwales
Paul I had my extinguisher cylinder refurbished at Demon Tweeks about two years ago, but was expensive at around £70......Other annual service on the system that I do is to remove and lubricate the inner operating cable. Neglect and water ingress with corrosion can result in a refusal to operate when most needed!!Malcolm
Drumster
I have used Lanan Racing, a Lifeline extinguisher dealer in Cranfield, Bedfordshire in previous years. In 2015 they serviced my 2.25l and 1.75l FEs (both AFFF) for £84 including VAT and P&P. Last year it was £110 for both but they did replace the bottle on the 2.25l as the schraeder valve inside had failed. New bottle was discounted by £30.Always had good service. Grahame W
For anyone else in the same boat most companies will not refill and service a bottle over 10 years oldLifeline do a new Zero 2000 2.25L bottle for a little under £100 Grahame
