Paul Mason
1.8k with Powerspeed (I believe) 4-2-1 system. At the end of the primaries, where they go into the 4-2 collector, the outer top joint has a slight phut phut on it and immediately on start up as it warms through sprays a very fine damp mist (guessing unburnt petrol as it warms up, no mist when warm, just the noise).Question.......is removing, cleaning and applying a little putty wise or any consequences to the exhaust I’m not aware of? The joints themselves are clean from any detritus and look undamaged (as I say, the “blow” is slight, I’m just a faff)If no unknown consequence, and recommended products or just any generic putty?Ta’s in advance
SM25T
Don't use exhaust putty. Try and flare male part of joint if you can. Use clear silicone sealant or high temperature orange loctite sealant ... spread lightly on the male part of the joint. Very little if there is a cat in the system .... you don't want it damaging the cat.
Paul Mason
Thanks for that. I’ll start with seeing if I can flare a little. Hadn’t thought about silicon or something like loctite. Not sure whether the car has a cat though so will proceed with caution.....
oilyhands
As above Loctite orange copper silicone RTV, if you are careful with its application then none need enter the exhaust, cure it by leaving the engine idling for 20 mins or so, you can ease a little into any gaps that remain from the outside, once cured it is very effective.Oily

OliverSedlacek
RTV silicone really is great for exhausts. It's compliance is very useful as it accommodates expansion.
mcerbm
I have a powerspeed 4-2-1 system (with CAT) and had the same problem as you. I sealed with the loctitie as Oily suggested and it sealed the exhaust with no issues. I have recently had the exhaust off to inspect my CAT with a boroscope and although a few minor specs of the loctite can be seen in the secondaries, nothing has reached the CAT.So yes I would give the thumbs up to this approach. elie boone
Slight off topic but the copper RTV also work on the X Flow headers especially the flange for cil 2 &
