elie boone
Bugger, I had a alloy rad repaired recently so any good outfit should be able to help you.
Mechanical Moz
Have exactly the same problem. From what I could gather the options are 1. Take it to a local radiator repair shop 2. Try and plug the leak yourself with JB Weld or similar 3 Send it back to Radtec who will likely tell you it's knackered but may offer a discount on a replacement depending on the age of your original. My approach is going to be all of the above in that order. Please let me know if you get any better advice.
Wrightpayne
Compared to the traditional copper cored rads, they do seem to fail a lot - I know of 2 others recently failed. Anecdotal observation mind you.Are they a bit like a Renault engine in a Torro Rosso - its how they're installed that causes them to fail?RegardsIan
ScottR400D
I don't know who makes the rads that come with Caterham kits but the first three I had with mine all leaked. In the end I had the second one repaired myself, while the third was on the car, and then swapped back. It's been fine since then.
elie boone
The copper rad it's material to fix it on the rubber bobbins is thinner so it bents easier without putting stress on the core, whereas the alloy rads have much thicker sides and therefore put much more stress on the core if the sides are not perfectly aligned with the rubber bobbins. Wrightpayne
I did have to add a couple of washers diagonally on the bobbins, so my copper rad wasnt distorted when I bolted it up.Ian
ScottR400D
All the leaks I had were pinholes in various welds.
nickh7
As I was 10 miles from Radtec after a business meeting I dropped it off with them. Interestingly they said don't use the Comma coolant as the pink stuff attacks the Ali. All their issues come from cars running pink coolant! Trouble is ive just flushed the system and filled it with the pink stuff . I bought a new bottle of the comma to refill after the sump issue. Looks like another flush and fill with Blucol ☹️
Domus
I have had Bluecol in mine for the last year.I too heard that the "pink stuff" is not the best for Radtecs. Takes me back to my first car, an Imp with an all alloy Coventry Climax engine which used Bluecol. Happy days
glasgow
My understanding, bluecol my be better for Radtec radiator but comma coolant is better for the K-Rover engine. Correct?
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted November 17, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted November 17, 2017 After 10 years my radtec leaked. Sent it back for repair and service was excellent and cheap. I can't praise them highly enough.
TomB
Really? All you seem to hear on BC is how their radiators leak. Shiney but leaky. It's what has put me off putting money their way and why I still on an ancient CovRad copper triple pass. Ugly but works and doesn't leak.

ScottR400D
Do you hear much about Radtec radiators leaking?I know that the rads that come with recent Caterhams are prone to leaks but are they Radtec?
John Vine
...they said don't use the Comma coolant as the pink stuff attacks the Ali. All their issues come from cars running pink coolant! Their use of the term "pink" is a big vague. Did they happen to say which particular Comma product they didn't like? G30 concentrated (violet)? G40 (also violet)? G30 ready-mixed (red)?Out of interest, which Comma product did you use?JV
