Fuel gauge illumination

Not too hard:

  1. Remove the gauge to see how it all works.
  2. Remove the lamp.
  3. Find a matching replacement lamp. (You can now get LED lamps that fit, but you might then want to change them all to match.
  4. ...etc.

PS: It's not essential to have either a wiring diagram or a multimeter, but it wouldn't hurt. ;-)

I would use a smartphone to photograph under the dash and to make sense of everything. The gauge is clamped to the dash using a U shaped bracket and two ribbed finger nuts. If you undo the nuts, you can then pull the gauge out of the dash.

There should be a white connector which you can then pull off. The remaining pair of wires go to the bulb holder, which is a bayonnet fitting in the back of the gauge. Twist and pull to get it out.

Refitting is reversal of removal.
