AndrewB
I ordered a new set of 14" Minilites but didn't like the push through centre caps that came with them. They push through by just over 40mm and didn't look right. Having wanted to try some 3D printing for a while I have built a crude (24 segment) centre cap in sketch up and sent it for printing as a trial. If it seems like it may be the answer I'll smooth it up in Blender and get it printed to a higher resolution. Has anyone printed centre caps before?Image Here
DJ.
That looks good to me, but I have no experience of 3d printing.

Steve Sheldon
I would be interested in a set if you decide to go ahead.
The_ASH
I notice the Caterham offering doesn't have quite enough clearance to stop the end of the front stub axle rubbing on the back of the cap, also the plastic they use is just a bit too brittle so often the attachment prongs break off rather too easily so a design with 5, 6, 7 or even 8 tabs would stop the car trying to self-lighten by shedding caps on a regular basis. Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted October 25, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted October 25, 2017 You could be on to something here.......what about centres for 13" wheels in graphite......?
Hampshire West AR
There was talk of 3D printing some SLR centre caps from a local member here in Dorset. Seems like a good idea. The same member made some centre caps by using some Rowntrees jelly pots, a real stroke of genius Nick
AndrewB
I am waiting on delivery of a test one. I will post pictures and comments and get another printed. As a one off printed item the cost was £11. This would be cheaper for a bulk order. Different sizes and designs are easy but i will see how well this one works before doing anything else. AndrewB
The first prototype arrived today. I have added some pictures to the blog along with my thoughts. Updates will have to wait a week or so due to work but I will post again when I have an update.
Steve Sheldon
Hello Andrew. Pls can you tell me what diameter you are using across the wheel centre where the cap pushes on? I have 2 sizes of Minilite - the Caterham originals wheel being slightly smaller and the cap is lower. Thanks.
