RogerB
I have had a gear box oil leak which I have been topping up periodically. However on the last two occasions oil has run out of the filler plug when removed. On the first occasion I thought it was because the car wasn't level having run the front wheels up ramps. So this time I ran the rear wheels up ramps thinking I would be able to top up the oil that ran out last time, however more ran out.I have the 5 speed box and K series with dry sump (Tank around bell housing). The oil seems thinner than gear oil. Is it possible that engine oil is migrating to the gear box?Roger.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted October 18, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted October 18, 2017 No. Engine oil can't migrate to gearbox. How bad is the leak. A tiny drip can look like an awful lot. You need to check the oil level with the car level.
RogerB
Thanks Paul,I know there is no way it can migrate with a conventional bell-housing. I just wondered if there is some way it can from the tank around this dry sump system.I have topped up as much as 200 ml in the past. I've also added Wynns transmission oil treatment to try and prevent the leak.
