Bob_C
OK, all set for Brands Hatch track day tomorrow. But, a new new speedo sensor was fitted last week and it isn't working. I backed the sensor off a bit (it was very small) and increased the gap to about 1.5mm (by eye) and it burst into life. However, above 50mph, it now drops to zero. So, assuming the earth and similar are OK, should I: A - Increase the gap? B - Decrease the gap? Answers on a postcard, please!
Member Jonathan Kay Posted August 20, 2017 Member Share Posted August 20, 2017 How much have you read about this already? From the archives...Is your sensor in the factory position or on a bracket? Are you using the built-in indicator or the speedometer or both to test it?Have you rewired as in Workshop Notice WN572?Jonathan
ScottR400D
Although I've never had my speedo not work at all, I did have it dropping out at 100 or so. The gap was a good 1mm/1.2mm and adjusting it to about .8mm has solved the issue. At least last track day it was fine up to an indicated 125/130. Bob_C
Thanks for your comments, folks. I didn't get much of a chance to look at the speedo yesterday which, apart from being a trifle crowded on track, was a great day! The bracket is new (from CC, the last one had broken where the rear ARB connects, which was the cause of the issue). The earth isn't the issue. I will fiddle with the gap as soon as I have a moment.
