CheshireCat Posted August 17, 2017 Share Posted August 17, 2017 I am rebuilding a 1.8 k series engine and have two sets of tappets/ cam followersA well used set which are 26mm deep and a new set which are 24mm deep.Can anyone explain the difference in size and is it ok to use the new shorter tappets ? CheshireCat Posted August 18, 2017 Author Share Posted August 18, 2017 Short update for anyone finding this thread in future.The new cam followers are from a MG/Rover OEM supplier. I have been advised that ....."'The length of the tappet itself isn't too important - it's the small piston you can see when looking at it upside down that controls the valve actuation. The part below this is just a 'skirt' to keep it central in the channel, so isn't critical - the original tappets were superseded by these parts a few years back with the new skirt length.
