Julian H
Hii have just seen my clutch which has around 33k miles on it. The grooves are probably up to around 1/2mm, maybe slightly less. Ideal opportunity to fit a new one when engine comes out in around 3 weeks!Cheers

JNC
J it makes sense to change it along with the clutch cover while it's removed from the car . Ps I have some paint left over from my No7 would you like me to paint yours ?
John Vine
already arranged the CRB to replace my noisy oneWhat sort of noise?Assuming you have a cable-operated clutch, have you sorted the pre-load?JV
revilla
Have you measured the plate with a caliper or micrometer? After 20K miles mine measured barely less than the new thickness, had probably used about 4% of it's useful life.
Paul Deslandes
If it were my car I'd replace the lot while it's apart. I've had driven plates crack, even with relatively little wear to the friction material, so it's not just the linings that can give trouble. That's not to say that a new one is any less likely to crack of course. I also had one where, under load, the splined boss rotated in the driven plate, causing what appeared to be regular clutch slip. I put it back in first time around as I couldn't see what the problem was .Paul
revilla
I guess its such a PITA to change it if it fails then it makes sense really.
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted July 23, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted July 23, 2017 The clutch cover cracked on my 1.6 K Srs at about 30,000 miles & eight years. Friction material on plate was hardly worn but I changed everything for an uprated AP assembly + CRB.Makes sense if the engine is out as you will only curse IF after putting everything back together a clutch related fault occurs. Julian H
The CRB makes a rough bearing noise when the clutch is depressed. My initial opinion is to side with those that say "just replace it" because it's an engine out to do the job job. Unfortunately I did not measure it with a micrometer. I did photograph it though and it seems to be quite worn compared to a photo of a new one? John, that's a very kind offer, yes please
John Vine
The CRB makes a rough bearing noise when the clutch is depressed. That sounds like it's on the way out. If it also squeals when you dip the clutch, and stops squealing if you pump the clutch several times, that's another symptom of impending failure. If you haven't applied the pre-load mod yet, I'd strongly recommend that you do.JV
