Namtip
I wanted to adjust my X-Flow's tappets, so off came the rocker cover, out came the 7/16" ring spanner and feeler gauges. However I cannot budge the tappet screws with the spanner. They are stuck fast. I even tried tapping the spanner with a hammer (lightly) - but nothing.Should I be using a longer spanner for more torque (mines only 6" or so), or is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance. philwaters
It's been a while, but I always remember them being really tight and hard to move. If memory serves, they only rely on friction, no locking nut. A long bar with gradual pressure is better than tapping with a hammer which is more likely to bend the spanner. Can you get a socket and use a large wrench with a set-down adaptor as required?
SM25T
From my Mark 2 Cortina crossflow days .... they are self locking bolts, so very tight. Use a ratchet handle and socket ... or get a longer ring spanner .... 6" long doesn't sound very big at all when it comes to leverage.
Jim 123
Are you certain that the valves are fully shut on the valves that you are trying to loosen? Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.
