Type 9 gear selection SOLVED

Recommended Posts

Over the years I have had gear selection problems with my type 9. I have found it difficult at times to find reverse, 1st to second, 2nd to third and third to 2nd. But no grinding of gears

The car has a new clutch, I have put in a new clutch cable and ensured that the clutch is disengaging. I have changed the oil to ensure I have the correct oil and have now put in yet another new saddle.

Things have improved but my issue now is first to second.

I understand that if it was a synchro issue then it should improve as the box warms up. It makes no difference to my box.

I put in a quick shift kit a number of years ago which consisted of a thick ally plate & come other bits. Like this:

The gearstick is from a Sierra.

Could it be a worn fork on the gear stick or a rubbish quick shift kit ?

Any ideas would be great

Perhaps revert back to the standard shift mechanism. My T9 was always difficult to get reverse with a definite push down before selecting.

Most of the gearbox specialists mentioned on here have reasonable strip and rebuild costs with additional costs for enhancements / repairs. If something is wrong you'll want it fixed! Just set yourself a limit for upgrades as a fancy new gear set can quickly get you into four figures!

Perhaps try a different oil (cover off and suck out the old oil) for the rest of the season.
