Kal-El
I've just fitted a Caterham dry sump to my 1.8K car however it now struggles to start from cold. Once its warm its fine. I'm using the same magnetron starter that was originally on the car. I've also replaced the batter for another PowerVamp type. Any ideas? Is the dry sump adding too much resistance or have I simply wired it up wrong? Any ideas welcome.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 20, 2017 Member Share Posted June 20, 2017 Did you have to disconnect any electrics to do the conversion?Does it sound as if it's turning over slower when cold? What's the voltage across the battery at rest, at 3,000 rpm and the minimum seen during cranking, both hot and cold?Jonathan

Kal-El
Yes, both the starter and alternator had to come off.It definitely sounds slower turning over when cold. I'll check those figures.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 26, 2017 Member Share Posted June 26, 2017 It's probably worth going over all the connections as well: everything at the starter, alternator and battery, including the earths (as 21jigsaw says). Inspect, wiggle, disconnect, clean, reconnect.Jonathan
djg
On my k with dry dump if I remove the starter some times I have to slacken off the starter bolts a bit then start the car. Stop the engine and tighten the bolts. The starter doesn't always align nicely and just needs encouragement to fit.hope that helps Doug
