Lack of Traction

Paul Bowden

Recommended Posts

I posted off the back of the guy who had problems with traction/grip with his "slicks" and made the point that I had problems at Santa Pod when my SL was spinning the rears in 3rd gear. I only have circa 140bhp. So I am looking for some answers. My thoughts/spec:-

Standard SL i.e. LSD

205 CR500 at 18 PSI correct pressure? should I lower this for the 1/4 mile

Very cold day, tyres just would not get up to temp, although I did try

SL R rear anti roll bar is on the Hardest setting, should I slacken it to the softest

I have no noticable problems under more normal driving conditions. I was shifting on the 7400 shift light and spectators commented on the wheel spin after the second gear change.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

For acceleration, disconnect the rear ARB and fit the softest rear springs you can find. (130lbs will be about right)

Do a couple of doughnuts to get the tyres warm first........

Drop tyres to around 14 psi warm at the rear and put the fronts up to around 30psi.

Santa pod is a slippery surface when cold. Best to run from the other end!!! (Check for oncoming traffic!!!!)
