Alan Reeves
I have just had a real nasty with a plug getting stuck in the head of my 175 Dura.I built the car new and ran for 6000 miles and sold it. Subsequently it has done 600 mile in 40 months and I bought it back. Immaculate.went to take the plugs out to renew them and the middle two plug holes, very deep on a Dura, are full of dry rust and clearly have had water laying in them for some time. I have done a 1000 miles this year including a coupe of drownings but this is clearly old .I would suggest that those with a Dura take this as a bit of a warning and get their plugs out and copper slip and replace. I would also do this at least yearlyI ended up with the ceramic body in my hand including the nut and the screw part and nose stuck in the head. Arnie came over and used his tools to screw into the body and screw anti clockwise the remove.A serious amount of force and luck required and it worked !!cannot understand how water would have gotten in and caused such an issue unless its condensation in a lock up garage ? but wy only two of the four plugs and the middle ones at that.anyone else had similar

ScottR400D
If it's anything like my Duratec the cover wouldn't stop much water getting to the cam cover itself and thereby the plug wells.

Wrightpayne
I always wash the bonnet off the car to minimise water ingress
colinchapman
I have seen this on Focus ( zetec) and Mondeo (duratec) that have Motorcraft spark plugs before. The Motorcraft plugs seem to rust in exactly the same place every time - just were the metal is the thinnest, resulting in a sheared plug. It is often on the first plug change the car has had.My solution has always been to fit NGK spark pugs, they seem to have a thicker jacket and resist corrosion better.I always put the water ingress down to valeters being over enthusiastic- in conventional cars that is
