Avatar upload problems

I'm a new user to this forum, but am a member of many other forums.  I've never had so much trouble uploading an avatar photo as on this forum.  I had to use a photo resizer about 4 times because your forum 1) doesn't warn before hand what size the file needs to be, and 2) wrongly calculates the size of the file after you upload it.

I used a photo resizer to size the file to 799KB, but your forum refused it saying it was something like 820KB.

Ok, I'll try, 580KB, but your forum refused it again saying that it was 813KB, only 7KB difference from the last one!

I got around this in the end by making it 200KB.  But calculating file size correctly needs to be looked at to avoid frustration for newbies using photo resizers.
