Alternator Tension - Voltages

How have you set the belt tension? I do it by checking the displacement with thumb pressure in the middle of the longest run, but others recommend twisting.

...

Measuring with a multimeter?

I like to see 14.4 V at 3,000 rpm, but 13.8 V is probably fine.

(The battery sounds OK. But while you're down there I'd measure and record minimum voltage during cranking. That's a good test of the condition of the battery and will tell you when it's off to meet its maker.)

Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply - the battery is new (couple of months), went with thumb pressure and noted placement of bolts, what is the twisting method? I am assuming it is a straight forward as it sounds!
