andy99998
Just replaced the alternator belt, reading over the battery is 13.1v before turn over 13.4 at idle and 13.8 at few thousand revs - is that about expected? Thanks, Andy
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 14, 2017 Member Share Posted May 14, 2017 How have you set the belt tension? I do it by checking the displacement with thumb pressure in the middle of the longest run, but others recommend twisting....Measuring with a multimeter?I like to see 14.4 V at 3,000 rpm, but 13.8 V is probably fine. (The battery sounds OK. But while you're down there I'd measure and record minimum voltage during cranking. That's a good test of the condition of the battery and will tell you when it's off to meet its maker.)Jonathan
andy99998
Jonathan, Thanks for the reply - the battery is new (couple of months), went with thumb pressure and noted placement of bolts, what is the twisting method? I am assuming it is a straight forward as it sounds! Andy
