bosshogg
Any suggestions welcome...After a long period laid up, I am trying to get my 2002 k series started. The starter is turning at good speed, but the bendix is not engaging. Have taken it off and it seems to be free enough, but added some lube anyway and jiggled it for a bit. re-attached and added an extra good battery via jump leads to give it some extra oomph. Still no joy.Have also tried moving the car in gear to change the position of the flywheel.Anything else to try?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 13, 2017 Member Share Posted May 13, 2017 Check all the relevant wiring and connections, including the earths. Wiggle, disconnect, inspect and clean, reconnect. What's the minimum voltage seen across the battery as the starter motor spins up? (You can do that with the jump battery attached.)Jonathan
bosshogg
Thanks Jonathan, all sorted now. It's been off and back on three times now, but managed to get it working on the bench first and now is working fine. Not really sure what cured it. Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 14, 2017 Member Share Posted May 14, 2017 Glad it's sorted. I'd guess that you either improved an electrical connection or unstuck some stiction in the drive. If it recurs remember that they are surprisingly repairable... and of course you're now an expert at getting them off and on again. :-)Jonathan
