antonio
good morningi need to replace my broken speed sensor but it not available from caterham :https://caterhamparts.co.uk/senders/1008-speed-sensor-gearbox.html?search_query=speed+%2Asensor&results=13i have spotted this one from burton but i don't know if the specs are similar. this has 3 wires but this can be modified as long as the pulse per revolutions are the same.http://www.burtonpower.com/ford-electronic-speedo-sensor-revfss.htmlcan you help me?maybe someone here has the technical details of the CC part?best regardsantonio
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 10, 2017 Member Share Posted April 10, 2017 There is a previous reference to a replacement from Burton in the archives, but I can't remember if it's the same as that one.JonathanPS: Are you sure that the problem is in the sensor rather than the wiring? Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 14, 2017 Member Share Posted April 14, 2017 Does that mean the Burton part works? Any modifications needed?ThanksJonathan
antonio
for those who might be interested, both caterham and burton sensor are 8 pulses per revolution.the burton's style is a ford part fitted on mondeo/ focus/fiestayou need to buy the sensor boss as well as thread are not the same. straight fit but you have to put the third wire to the earth.much cheaper than the CC parts.cheers
simon_h
Thats interesting and good news. Was wondering what to do with my rebuild not having a sensor at all.
R300 FNL
On this subject, does anyone know what the 2 wires (light green and red/blue) are on the original sensor? I think the blue/red is the signal wire but unsure about the light green wire? Both wires go to the speedo gauge.Unsure if the light green is +12v or to ground? simon_h
As it’s a 2 wire sensor it’s most likely a vr and so one is a signal and one is a ground. As long as both are connected at both sender and speedo that’s all that matters
R300 FNL
Simon, thanks for the reply, both were connected into the old gauge but I am wiring in a new gauge and this is the set up of the new connector. Im happy that red/blue goes to pin7 (red blue) for 2 wire sensors.I've read that light green is +12v and also been told it would normally be to earth. simon_h
I would ground the green one independently and try it. The sensor makes its own voltage to produce the signal, if it were going into an ecu it would have the signal to one pin and the other to a ground. That’s what is probably happening in its normal installation. It’s either going to work or not. Can’t hurt the sensor. Don’t connect it to power though
Dave Hardcastle
#1 Hi Antonio. If this is the sensor you are talking about, I fitted one to my last Caterham, a 1.6 K series. You'll need the adapter as well, increases the cost significantly but it's still cheaper than the Caterham part. And, of course, should the new one ever fail you won't need the adapter. Can't remember the specifics of connecting the wiring now, but it wasn't difficult. The thing that sticks in my mind is what a bloody awkward job it is laying underneath the car to remove/fit the sensors. I'd also recommend using some thread lock when you put it all together. The adapter can rotate undone.
OldAndrewE
Ref the Burton speed sensor discussed above (it is actually a Cambiare one) does anyone know what the 3 wires are? There are brown, black/brown and yellow/brown. I want to use it with a Smiths Classic programmable speedo

OldAndrewE
Thanks Jonathan, I must be going blind. I did not see that when I looked at the Burton site first time. Must properly next time
