Went for an early morning blat this morning, car ran perfect but when I put main beam on the charge light came on, dull at first but got brighter the more I used the lights. Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 7, 2017 Member Share Posted April 7, 2017 Check the alternator is mounted OK and not loose. Check the alternator belt is undamaged and tension is OK. Measure the battery voltage at rest, minimum during cranking, and at 3,000 rpm.Jonathan Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Area Representative Piers300 Posted April 8, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted April 8, 2017 If the red light was glowing, this indicates that a diode has failed in the alternator rectification circuit and you are getting only half wave rectification. If the red light then goes fully bright, chances are the diode pack has failed. Your local auto rewind shop can normally rebuild the alternator and it should not be that expensive.Piers Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
