alternative supply of water temp sender

Do you mean the ECU temp sender, the gauge temp sender or the temp switch in the radiator? Which water rail do you have?

If the switch, then you should probably override it to a manual switch as a temporary measure and work towards an ECU controlled solution.

I have never had an ECU water temp sender fail, but it may depend on your water rail. The original design hid it round the corner from the exhaust headers. The "evo" design isn't as clever as it places it directly above the headers. You can fix this by relocating to a submarine pipe, just like the R500s.

Similar story with the gauge water temp sender, but both water rails cause the same problem. Best to move to the submarine pipe.

thanks peter - it is the one in the water rail, which i think is just for the gauge

as for which water rail, dunno, but suspect a later designed one (2001 Eu3 car), the sender screws into it from on top towards the back of the engine...

so is the cause of the failure due to its proximiaty to the exhaust headers 🤔

in terms of placing into the submarine, any tips or advice as to how to do this 🤔

cheers
