danielcwsmith
Hi,Has anyone had a carbon nose re-lacquered? Mines quite tired looking and I'd like to give it a bit of a smarten up, but would be interested if anyone's had it done and at what cost? New noses are expensive, but mine's pretty banged up too, so if it's really expensive there seems little point. Many thanksDanny
Cookie Monster
PJA in Ashford Middlesex are doing a lot of re lacquering on 7 parts; Ive just had some rear wings done by them & they look great. I think you'll be looking around the £200 mark.I might have a brand new CC nose cone in carbon at substantially less than the £700 CC want for one if you want to go the replacement route? Phil. 29south
I had my front wings relacquered at Xtreme restorations in Cowfold West Sussex, they did a super job.

Smithy77
Have you tried rejuvenating before spending out on high cost re-coating/replacement? I've just used Auto Glym Bumper Gel on mine and they have come out looking like new.
danielcwsmith
Yes, though cheers for the tip - it's beyond that. I can see the holes where the lacquer has degraded. It also has two sunbleached patches from a race number and number plate, so it's a pro job really.
John Vine
Auto Glym Bumper GelApologies for the highjack, but would that work on a c/f dashboard? The one on my R400D has a certain patina which I'd like to deal with. I've tried various polishes, but with not a lot of success.JV
Smithy77
JV, the short answer is yes! My dash was the original (I assume) from 15 years ago and was horribly dull and faded (with a brown haze/patina) with the carbon weaves blurring into one another. A good treatment of AG BJ really brought it back to life.I don't have a "before" pic unfortunately, but this was the result...Also works wonders on switches, light blocks and vinyl... John Vine
Thanks for that -- looks better than mine.By way of research, I sent some photos of my dash to AutoGlym and asked for their advice. They suggested Vinyl and Rubber Care or Instant Show Shine. They advised against Bumper and Trim as it would "make the dashboard too greasy and this will in turn attract dust very quickly and make it look worse". Make of that what you will! I use Vinyl and Rubber Care on my boot cover, doors and tonneau, so I'll give that a try first.JV
TomB
There is a really cheap supermarket polish that revives carbon nicely. But I'm buggered of I can remember what it is. Something to do with bees/ honey.
Smithy77
JV, will be interested to know how that goes
Strangely
"Aristowax Original Wood Silk"? I saw it recommended on FB and bought some for £1.50 from my local supermarket, but haven't tried it yet.http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/woodsilk-non-silicone-wood-furniture-polish--silk-250mlAlso available for 3x the price from Amazon.Jason. Jonathan Kay
Options including "Wood Silk" from the archives. The bee connection is wax rather than honey! :-)Jonathan
TomB
Yes, that's the one. What is the relacquering process? Would it be possible to remove dials and switches and relacquer the dash in-situ? Just wonder whether one could sand the lacquer off and treat with some form of varnish or a lacquer, probably sprayed on?
danielcwsmith
I think the consensus for a nose is around £200 or so. Since mine is pretty banged up already, I think I may either leave as is, or wrap it to give it a bit of strength. No point literally polishing a you-know-what.
