Gunscrossed Posted February 7, 2017 Share Posted February 7, 2017 In my quest for a cheapish 7 I've come across a ew ex-race cars.The ones I've seen are pretty much mechanically sorted but need things like lights and windscreen etc. Given the kit type nature of Caterhams I'm guessing this sort of stuff is fairly easy to retro fit? Would it have a V5 and whatever other paperwork would be required to register it, and would it be capable of meeting the relevant emissions regulations for registering a car in 2017? Pendennis Posted February 7, 2017 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Peace of cake.A race car is mechanically maintained to a high regime, probably but debatably higher than a polishers car. No doubt there are many that constantly fettle their cars and those that just drive. Most if not all race cars have to be constantly maintained so don't be afraid by the 'race car' label.This may of changed but pre 2000 any car is smoke test only, after that it emissions are tested and a CAt is required.
